Lola High, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Winchester Terrace in Mansfield after a brief illness. Born in Toledo on March 20, 1927 to Joseph and Barbara (Bacso) Vargo, she graduated Waite High School in 1945. She had fond memories of her younger years, from playing saxophone in the marching band to dancing at the 3 D's on Broadway St. to working at the Autolite. Later on, Lola worked at the White Tower as a waitress for 25 years before retiring in 2004, at the age of 77. She was loved by her customers, many of whom gave her angel pins, which she would wear on her lapel. She was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ and Rebekah Lodge. Lola was an excellent cook who loved to cook and bake Hungarian dishes, but was perhaps best known for her famous waffle cookies.
Lola spent her last couple years in Mansfield to be closer to her daughter. She really enjoyed taking Sunday drives through the countryside, remarking on the tall trees and hills; her favorite was by the Blueberry Patch. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, shopping and going out to eat, especially the occasional Long John Silvers. She looked forward to her visits from her niece Barbara Sue and nephew Craig. Lola was thoughtful, generous, had a great sense of humor and smile, and made an impact on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and her friends at Maria Manor.
Surviving are her children, Beth (Joe) Boyd, Jeffrey and Donald; granddaughter, Kelli; great granddaughter Elaina; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Joseph, Margaret (Joseph) Chor, William, Albert (Doris) and Julius (Helen); and grandson, Nicholas McKenney.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow the service at North Oregon Cemetery and will be open to close family members. Memorial contributions in Lola's name can be donated to Calvin United Church of Christ.
