Obituary

Louis Raymond Hochradel, 85, passed away August 31, 2016 at his home in Pemberville, Ohio. Louie was born in Erie, Michigan on January 8, 1931, the son of Louis and Hazel (Billings) Hochradel. He attended Macomber High School until he joined the Navy in 1948 where he served in the Korean War on his beloved ship the U.S.S. St. Paul until 1952. Louie married the love of his life, Alice Mae (Miller) Hochradel on January 24, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio. He re-enlisted with the Navy Reserve from 1955-1959 at which time he and Alice settled in Toledo, Ohio to raise their family. Before re-enlisting, he took a job with B&O Railroad that became CSX from which he retired after 40 years. He also worked for a time for both Tiedtkes and Sears delivering furniture. Louie attended Owens Technical College in the Electrical Engineering Program. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and animals, especially his beloved dogs, Niki and Mica. He was a card player, avid reader and had a great love of music as well as Geography. Louie could often be found studying his World Atlas and Maps. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Louie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alice; children, Cheryl Hochradel, Kim Hartford, Tammy Hochradel, Nanette Hochradel, Michael Hochradel; 11 grandchildren; 20 great–grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Pamela (Larry) Zepp; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Alton Douglas; daughter, Debra Volmar; sons-in-law, Mark Volmar, Melvin Hartford; grandchildren, Brian Volmar and Tammy Mae Bost; brothers, Harold and Raymond Guntman. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with Rosary services at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Epiphany of the Lord Parish – St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 729 White St., Toledo at 11:00 a.m. where the family will begin greeting friends at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Louis' name are asked to consider a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially Gabby and Alea for their compassionate care.
