Obituary

Louis W. Kozma, age 82, of Northwood, OH, passed away on January 9, 2015, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born on September 13, 1932, in Toledo to the late Zigmond and Agnes Kozma. Louis grew up in the Hungarian neighborhood of Birmingham. He attended Waite High School, where he was president of his Senior class. Following graduation, Lou and his classmates kept in touch by meeting regularly. Lou went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force for four years and enjoyed sharing stories of the many places he visited. At the end of his enlistment, he attended BGSU where he received a degree in English and Journalism. In the 1960s, he became a deejay at WOHO, which would become his pride and joy. Many people in the area were greatly entertained by his nightly radio broadcasts, knowing him affectionately as "Lou K Swingin' Your Way". On June 1, 1963, Lou married Marilyn Hirzel. Soon after, he began working for his father-in-law as the office manager at Hirzel Canning Company. For 34 years, he contributed to the success of the family business. Lou was very involved in his church, Calvin United Church of Christ. He served on many committees and became the president of the Calvin United Consistory. During his 50-year marriage to Marilyn, they had four children, Lisa (Mark) Hecklinger, Lori (Dean) Robertson, Lou Kozma, and Christopher (Amy) Kozma. Even though Lou struggled with Alzheimer's for many years, his grandchildren, Lexa, Ryan, Logan, and Mason Hecklinger, Kyle and Drew Robertson, and Nicholas and Nathan Kozma, will always remember him as being funny and loving. In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret "Muncie" (Leonard) Swigonski, Ernest (Ethel) Kozma, and Arlene (Lee) Studer. Special thanks to caregivers, Terri and Pam for their love and concern during his illness. Thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care during Lou's final days. Visitation will take place Friday, January 16, from 4-8 p.m. at Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road in Oregon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell St., Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. A Celebration will be held following the service at Oak Shade Grove, 3624 Seaman Street, Oregon.
