Louise M. Sommers, 86, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family Friday, July 7, 2023, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Louise was born September 1,1936 in Toledo, Ohio to William and Hester (Carr) Ruch. A graduate of Woodward High School, Louise worked at Libbey Glass, Philips Bottled Gas, Anthem Blue Cross / Blue Shield, and retired from Owens Corning. On January 31, 1958, she married the love of her life James F. Sommers Sr. She was a longtime member of First St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the altar guild, member of Ruth Circle, and board member of the WELCA. Additional memberships included St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary, Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society, Toledo Sail & Power Squadron, and former member of the Toledo Yacht Club.
Louise is survived by her children Julie Ann (Jim) Swanson and James F. Sommers Jr.; grandchildren, Benjamin Keller, Carrie Keller, and Lucas Sommers; and brother-in-law, Jospeh Blowers. Preceded in death by her parents, husband; brother, Robert (Rosemarie) Ruch; and sister, Carolyn Blowers.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Friday, July 14, 2023, from 12:00 pm – 8:00pm. Funeral services Saturday, July 15, 2023, at First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Road, Toledo at 10:00 am where the family will greet friends after 9:00 am. Interment: Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in the form of contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or First St. John Lutheran Church.
