Sue's organizational skills and professionalism made her a valued employee of several firms over many years. After high school, she worked for Autolite, then retired to raise her family. She returned to the work force to run the license agency at Max Reddish Sporting Goods, then spent many years with Libbey Glass and Owens-Illinois. Following retirement from O-I, she worked for the City Courts of Oregon and for the Toledo Board of Education. During her active work life, she was a member of the Oregon Business and Professional Women's Club.
Sue and Paul enjoyed traveling, and had visited every state of the Union, several provinces in Canada, a number of Caribbean Islands, and Norway. In earlier days, they spent long, happy days boating and water skiing, and Sue enjoyed fishing, Mud Hens baseball and auto racing. Sue once walked enough miles to total the distance between Oregon and Champaign, IL, finishing off her goal by walking up to her daughter's house there. She was a skilled seamstress and needlecrafter, and she enjoyed reading and gardening. Long active in Oregon politics, Sue was a dedicated member of the Republican Party, and twice ran for City Council. She was also a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Toledo, and had a long association with St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oregon as well.
