Luella J. Humbarger, 89, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Otterbein Sunset Village in Sylvania, Ohio, four days shy of her 90th birthday with her husband Bob and daughter Linda by her side. Luella was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 8, 1932 to Louis and Ella (Materni) Sendi and grew up in the Birmingham neighborhood of East Toledo. She was a lifelong member of Calvin United Church of Christ (formerly the Hungarian Reformed Church); she served as a faithful volunteer at the church alongside her husband Bob for many years. Luella was a 1949 graduate of Waite High School and continued her education at Bowling Green State University, where she received a Bachelor of Education in 1953. She married the love of her life Robert "Bob" Humbarger on June 26, 1954; they were college sweethearts since the age of 17. Luella was a primary grade teacher in the Toledo City Schools (Birmingham and Franklin Elementary Schools) after graduation from college. After spending some time at home raising her three children, Luella returned to the classroom as a teacher with Oregon City Schools at Jerusalem Elementary School until her retirement.
Surviving Luella are her loving husband of 68 years, Robert; children, Linda (Jon) Limbach, Tom (Nancy) Humbarger and Gary (Peter Bartels) Humbarger; grandchildren Eric (Abby) Limbach, Nathan Limbach, Scott (Libby Kokemoor) Humbarger, Brian (Annie Rusk) Humbarger, Henry Humbarger and Kit Humbarger. Luella was lovingly referred to as "Extra Grandma" by her only great-grandchild, Simone Limbach. Luella also has one surviving sibling, David (Carole) Sendi.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Ella Sendi; siblings Richard (Nancy) Sendi and John (Betsy) Sendi. She was very proud of her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many friends and neighbors, who admired her constant generosity and kindness, her creativity, Hungarian cooking, sense of humor, everlasting love for her family and her beautiful gardens.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 am in Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell Street, Toledo, Ohio with the family receiving guest beginning at 10:30 am. A Luncheon will immediately follow service. Private Interment took place at Lake Township Cemetery.
