Lyle J. Hellwig, 88, of Martin, Ohio, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully Monday, February 8, 2016. Lyle was born in Genoa, Ohio on November 12, 1927 to Harlan and Alta (Croll) Hellwig. He graduated from Genoa High School in 1945 where he was an active member of the FFA. On April 9, 1950 he married Eloise Freimark. Lyle was a lifelong farmer raising grain and produce crops. The Hellwig Family Farm was recently recognized as a Century Farm by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. His memberships included: Ohio Farm Bureau, Ottawa County ASC, and Trinity United Church of Christ. His true passion was spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eloise; children, Elizabeth (Ronald) Ayotte, Barbara (Jack) Chio, and David Hellwig; grandchildren, Carrie (Kevin) Peters, Cathy (Nicholas) Buehler, Daniel (Andrea) Ayotte, Dean (Cassie Casares) Ayotte, and Amanda Chio; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Collin Peters, Rachel and Adam Buehler, and Matthew Ayotte; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Myron Hellwig.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Friday, February 12, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Church of Christ Elliston, Ohio where the family will greet friends beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Elliston Cemetery.
