Margaret S. Kreis, 88, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born on November 20, 1927 to Peter and Suzie (Ballo) Guba who had immigrated to America from Hungary in the early 1900's. She was very proud of her Hungarian heritage and that she grew up in the Birmingham neighborhood. In her early years she worked for Goldner's Department Store before graduating from Waite High School. After graduating she attended 4 years at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, graduated and became an RN in 1949. Shortly after graduating, she married the love of her life, Harry Kreis, on July 22, 1950 who preceded her in death on July 2, 1975. While working as head nurse at Riverside, Margaret was sent to Buffalo to learn how to set up a Neo-Natal intensive care unit. Margaret worked at Riverside Hospital for 35 years as head nurse and special care before her retirement. She continued to volunteer at the hospital for 5 years. She was a life member at Calvin United Church of Christ. Margaret enjoyed playing bingo, cards, attending and volunteering at the Birmingham Senior Center, Navarre Senior Center and was in the Mercy Knitters for 25 years. She also had a passion for reading, crocheting and ceramics. Margaret was an avid fan of the Gold Diggers, Cleveland Browns, Mud Hens and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Margaret is survived by her children; Steve Kreis, Linda Mazurkiewicz, Roger (Kathy) Kreis, Denise (Garry) Parks, Harry (Mitzi) Kreis; sister, Betty (Jerry) Edwards; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; 2 sisters and 1 brother. Margaret passed away on the same day her brother Pete Kreis was laid to rest. Friends and family may visit Kinsey-Pavley Funeral Home, 2001 Consaul St., Toledo, Ohio, 43605 on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 5:00 pm. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Private graveside services will be held at Toledo Memorial Park.
