Margit G. Tonjes 71 of Northwood, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at Heartland of Oregon surrounded by her loving family. Margit was born on May 5, 1936 in Berlin, Germany. Margit, her husband, and her first born daughter moved to the U.S. in 1956. She was employed at St. Vincent's Hospital in the Cardiology department, followed by Kaiser Jeep where she was a proud member of the UAW, and the first woman to work in the press shop. Margit was proud to be an American citizen yet never forgetting her German heritage. She was a member of the GBU and GAF where she served as secretary for the retiree's for 20 years, speaking German every chance she got. Margit brought the skill of being a seamstress from Germany. She had an eye for design and was very meticulous in everything she did. With her love for nature, gardening came natural for her. Margit lived for her grandchildren and her many dogs she raised over the years, the last one being her Westie, Snowy, her best friend till the end.
Surviving are her loving daughters, Marie Karl, Renee (Randall) Martin; grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Weseman, Heather Russell; great grandchildren, Karl Zacharias, Tyler & Jacob Weseman; step-grandchildren, Trisha and Heather Nuszbaum, Lance (Hope), Chad, and Amanda Martin; step great-grandchildren, Michael Pecina, Caleb and Samantha Martin.
Keeping with Margit's wishes services were private. The family wishes to thank Heartland of Oregon's staff and nurses for all the love and care they provided to Margit during her stay.
