Obituary

Maria Hagemann, 78, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, surrounded by her family.

Maria was born on January 29, 1948, in Robstown, Texas, to Eloy and Jesusa Garza. As the oldest of eight children, she learned early the importance of family and all the love that entailed which she carried with her throughout her entire life.

Maria's own love story began at a Teen Town Dance at the Collins Park Shelter House, where she met Robert. That chance encounter grew into a lifetime of love. They married at Holy Rosary and celebrated their 60th anniversary this past January.

Maria found joy in life's simple, familiar pleasures. She loved sewing and embroidery, especially making blankets for her family. Each was crafted not only by hand, but with specific details to the person she was creating it for. She enjoyed tending her plants, watching classic black-and-white movies, playing games, and attending Tuesday night bingo at St. Michaels.

Her children fondly remember the irresistible aroma of her homemade tortillas in the morning and sneaking them warm from the griddle to enjoy with melted butter. She also baked countless cakes for birthdays, holidays, and family gatherings that no one else could replicate. Maria deeply cherished her large family and took great pride in her Mexican heritage.

She was a devoted wife to Robert and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, godmother, and aunt. She cherished every generation of her family and proudly watched them grow, flourish, and pursue their accomplishments.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Robert; children, Kimberly (Brad) Kamelesky, Crystal (Jeff) Cooper, and Katrina (Mark) Fahle; grandchildren, Bryant, Rebecca, Brianna, Kylie, Mitchell, Natalee, Cohen, Nathan, Grant, Jackson, Trent, Chase, and Jase; great-grandchildren, Oaklyn, Rylee, Marleigh, and Beau; siblings, Rosario Sanchez, Carmelita (Roberto) Martinez, Eloy Garza Jr., Francisca Miller, Gabriel Garza, and Noe (Deborah) Garza; goddaughter, Teresa Garza; and many nieces and nephews.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Robert Jr.; and her brother, George Garza.

Those who knew Maria will remember the simple moments they shared with her, as well as her smile, stories, and laughter. Maria leaves behind pieces of herself in the people she loved, in the traditions she created, in the blankets she carefully stitched, and in the generations of her family who will carry her love forward.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Highland Memory Gardens.

To help give Maria the beautiful farewell she deserves, the family warmly invites those who wish to honor her memory to consider contributing to her funeral fund to help with final expenses.
