Marian Darr, 87, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully just before sunset on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Marian was born to Bert R. & Bessie G. (Hellyer) Maltman on January 30, 1935. She graduated from Scott High School in Toledo. Marian dedicated her young life to raising her sons, determined to provide the world four strong, steady men; she succeeded in her mission. Marian spent much of her life volunteering her time and talents in various organizations. When her children were young, she poured herself into the Mother's Club at Oakdale Elementary School. In 1981, she married the love of her life, Bob, and together they built an amazing life of service to others. Marian was a life-long member of Memorial United Church of Christ; her beautiful tenor voice a constant from the choir loft. She served the church in various capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Jr. Choir Director, Sr. & Jr. Handbell Choir Director, and numerous committee leadership positions. She was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi. Her passion for supporting Veterans was second to none. She gave her all in her dedication to this passion through various organizations. As a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 468, she served in various roles including (but not limited to) Past 1st District President, Americanism Committee Chairman and Buckeye Girls' State volunteer. In addition, she dedicated herself to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, OH as Poppy Shop Director, and Eight et Forty Salon 101 as Salon Chapeau & Departmental Chapeau.
Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her children, Paul (Pam) Ferguson, and Douglas (Dolly) Ferguson, Dennis Darr, Robyn (Chet) Strawinski, Timothy (Kim) Darr, and David (Rachel) Rancour; daughters-in-law, Lynn Ferguson, and Shaun Ferguson as well as her 35 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Sue Maltman. Marian was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Bob, her parents, her brothers Phillip Maltman &William Hellyer, as well as her sons, Charles Ferguson, Jr. & Bruce Ferguson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12 noon until 8:00 pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio, where Beta Sigma Phi Memorial Ritual will be held at 4:00 p.m. and American Legion Auxiliary Services at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, March 21 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Marian's name are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Memorial United Church of Christ.
