Marie Edith Ernst, 93, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006. Born to Emil and Ella (Tilly) Wolff in Toledo's German community, she spent much of her early life in the area that became the city of Oregon and attended the now historic Brandville School. As a youngster, she studied piano and organ and for a time served as the organist in her church.
She attended Davis Business College and worked as a medical assistant in Toledo. Marie was instrumental in forming an organization that eventually became the Medical Assistants of Lucas County. She also worked in other diverse positions in Toledo and Arizona.
An avid embroiderer for several decades, Marie's embroidered artistry graced pillows, pictures, furniture, handkerchiefs, and other items. She is credited with creating over 20 quilts, with one on permanent display at the Luther Home of Mercy in Williston, Ohio. She was known to have a green thumb with African violets, Christmas cacti, and other household plants.
In her later years, she lived at Abundant Life and the Manor at Perrysburg.
Marie is survived by her son, Carl (Gladys) Luhrs and grandchildren Joyce Luhrs (David Miller), Katherine Luhrs-Warner (Andrew Warner) and Warren Luhrs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ernst; son, Paul Luhrs; sisters Dorothy Beaudry and Leona Mae Wolff and an infant brother.
At Marie's request, there will be no visitation, and services will be private. Arrangements have been made by Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home in Oregon.
