Marion M. Thies, 92, of Genoa and formerly of Millbury, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. She was the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Bast) Sondergeld born on July 22, 1915, in Graytown, Ohio. She married Monroe Thies May 3, 1940, in Elmore, Ohio and later moved to Millbury, Ohio. Marion graduated from Oak Harbor High School and went to Beauty School. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Elmore. In 1960 she worked in her husband's business for the former Williston Implement later changed to Industrial Equipment of Northern Ohio. After her husband's death in 1981 she then became president until son, John took over as president in 1994, but still remained active in the business to age 90. Marion was an avid bridge player, enjoyed all sorts of crafts which she enjoyed donating to charitable organizations which she became known as "The Bunny Lady". By knitting thousands of bunnies that were sent worldwide it put smiles on many faces who at times did not have things to smile about she felt she was serving her Lord. She was a faithful member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Monroe; daughter, Sandra Velliquette; grandchildren, Tina Velliquette and Gary Wax; sisters, Mildred Bibler and Melinda Ganske. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Leo) Wax, Jerome (Mary Kay), Linda (Frank) DeFalco, Patricia Thies, John (Kathy); 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grand-children and son-in-law, Jim Velliquette. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury and where her funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Marion's memory are asked to consider the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
