Obituary

Marjorie Blanche Hammer, 97 years, of Oregon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2015 with family members by her side. Blanche was born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada on July 9, 1918 to William and Etta McCauley. The family soon moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where Blanche and her brother and sister grew to adulthood. In 1942 she became a citizen of the United States and married Raymond Hammer who was a native of Toledo. They settled in Toledo and raised six children. For many years they also provided a loving foster home for many children with disabilities. Blanche volunteered for the American Red Cross, Feed your Neighbor, and Church Women United. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ and also a past member of the Oregon Senior Center Board of Directors. Blanche is survived by her children; Fred Hammer, Nancy (David) Romer, Mary Thomas, Thomas Hammer and Roy (Camille) Hammer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, sister, Gladys Smith, brother, Roland McCauley, son, Edward Hammer, and granddaughter, Sarah Hammer. Six grandchildren survive; Manda (Kollin) Rice, Terence (Tracy) Romer, Nyssa (Randy) Boyer, Joanna (Michael) Tampurages, Dawyn Hammer, and Scott Hammer. Blanche is also survived by ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Private services for the family were held Saturday, September 5th. Blanche was laid to rest beside her husband in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel assisted with arrangements.
