Marlin "Stub" Edward Mock, 77, of Defiance, died October 27, 2010, in his residence after a lengthy illness. Born May 21, 1933, to Wanda (Hanenkrath) and Clyde Mock. On December 19, 1954, he married Nancy Mast, who survives. Marlin was a 1951 graduate from Ayersville High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Special Services at Ft. Lee, VA. After his enlistment with the Army, he attended Defiance College for 2 years, then going on to Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, graduating in 19958. He was Funeral Director at Mast Mock Hoffman for 37 years where he became co-owner in 1960, becoming president in 1988 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also was past secretary of the Board of Directors and past president of the Defiance Lions Club; a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #117, where he served on the Board of Control; Omega Masonic Lodge and the Defiance Elks Lodge. In addition to his wife, Nancy, surviving are his daughters, Julie (Nathan) Wright of Oak Harbor, OH, Jenny (Richard) Darr of Jackson, GA, Jane (Larry) Schaffer of Oregon, OH; grandchildren, Mike (Jenny) Cordray, Staci (Sean) Zolkoski, Kelly, Zach and Ryan Darr, Rachel, Lauren and Jacob Schaffer and great-grandchildren, Colton, Addison and Zoe. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, James Cordray and his sisters, Pauline Nissen, Juanita Nissen and Beverly Wiler. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2010, at Hanenkrath Clevenger Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. George Reed officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.
