Obituary

Mary Rose DeMaria, 92, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Orchard Villa Nursing and Rehab. Mary Rose was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 29, 1926 to James and Lucy (Campagna) D'Emilio. She was a 1944 graduate of Waite High School and in a few years met and fell in love with Lino DeMaria at Camp Perry which housed Italian prisoners of war during WWII. After the war's end, Mary voyaged 15 days across the ocean by ship to reunite with and marry Lino in Bologna Italy. Shortly after, they returned to the United States and Mary began her professional career working at Nabisco Toledo. She spent the majority of her working years as the supervisor of the water department for the City of Oregon. She worked at that position 25 years retiring in 1986. Mary Rose will be remembered for her sharp wit and ironclad memory. She was keenly competitive and relished playing Scrabble or the Italian card game Briscola with her family. She was always tough to beat! She was a fervent buckeye football fan and watched every minute of every game, especially enjoying victories against the team up north. Mary's greatest love was her family. She was a true matriarch for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her cooking was legendary especially her homemade pizza and tortellini. Sunday dinners were made with love and was a time to share great food and each other's company. Mary Rose's faith was strong and her family and friends were beneficiaries of many novenas over the years. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, James (Karen) DDS, Jess (Kelley) MD; grandchildren, Joseph, Sara, Michael, Vinny, Anthony, Janey; great grandchildren. Ellie, Gino, and Carmen. Mary Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband the love of her life for 56 years, Lino; brother, Joseph D'Emilio. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 2-8 pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel. 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Road, Oregon on Tuesday at 11:00 am and where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am.
