Mary Catherine (Csizek) Poddany, 85, passed away peacefully June 3, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was a member of Holy Rosary parish and a lifetime resident of the Birmingham neighborhood in East Toledo, raising her own family on the same street where she grew up. She was born on Christmas Day 1928, the oldest of 4 children, to Catherine (Hiszak) and Alex Csizek who preceded her in death. On November 19, 1949 Mary Catherine married Casimer (Kayo) Poddany and they enjoyed 48 years together, raising 2 boys, before Kayo'™s death in 1997. Mary Catherine was a dedicated worker with many years in various service industries before retiring from her final job with the county on the facilities staff at the Lucas County Courthouse. Her greatest joy however, came from spending time with friends and family. She was always willing to help out with her grandkids and was usually right down on the floor playing with them. Mary Catherine will be missed by her sons and daughters-in-law; Michael (Shirley) and Mark (Kathy); her 3 grandchildren, Darci Sennett (Michael), Joseph and Lila Poddany; and 2 great-grandchildren, Russell and Sadie Sennett. She is also survived by her brothers, Ted Csizek (Kay), Jerry Csizek (Nancy); sister, Jeannie McGuire (Tom); brother-in-law, Joe Poddany (Lydia) and many nephews and nieces. Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Stephens Church, 1880 Genesse St., June 7, 2014 at 10:00 am with a funeral mass to begin at 11:00. Burial services will follow at North Oregon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the organization of the donor'™s choice. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. As a family we would also like to thank the staffs at West Park Place and St. Anne'™s Hospital ICU for the extraordinary help and care they provided to us and to Mary in her last few weeks.
