After a lengthy battle with leukemia, Mary Ann Shanks,82, of Oregon, Ohio, left this world Tuesday, April 21, 2015, surrounded by her children. She was born on November 21, 1932, to Bert and Mary (Prekop) Bumbera, in the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo. Mary Ann was a graduate of Waite High School, class of
1950, where she was Vice President of her Senior class. On May 21, 1955, she married Charles F. Shanks. Mary Ann lived her life for her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She had a passion for all things sports especially the Cleveland Indians and the University of Notre Dame. Her daily crossword puzzles, current events and politics were very important to her. She took great delight in the activities and accomplishments of her children and granddaughter.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Pam Shanks, Julie Shanks (Alex Parks), Sheila Shanks and son, Brad (Marianne) Shanks; brother, Bert (Janet) Bumbera, and sister, Carol Warnke. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Charles; granddaughter, Jennifer Dixon; brothers, Bill Bumbera and Bob Bumbera; sisters, Valerie Bumbera and Violet Bumbera.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life during visitation from 2-8 p.m., Thursday, April 23, at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio 43616. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m., at Corpus Christi University Parish, where the family will greet visitors beginning at 9 a.m. Memorial contributions may made be made to Notre Dame Academy, 3535 W.
