Obituary

Mary Rose Silva (Plasencio), age 81, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was surrounded by her family, friends, and loved ones. After a courageous year-long battle with an illness, she departed this world on one of her favorite holidays, the Fourth of July — truly "going out with a bang," just as she came into this world with a celebration, born on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio.

Mary Rose was the beloved daughter of Augustin and Isabelle (Rodriguez) Plasencio. She graduated from Waite High School, Class of 1964, and dedicated her life to raising her three boys as a proud homemaker.

A devoted Catholic, Mary Rose was deeply connected to her parish, Good Shepherd Church, where she volunteered for countless school and church functions. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, served in the Altar Linen Ministry, a church usher, coordinated luncheons for grieving families as part of the Funeral Hospitality Committee, and made history as the first female Eucharistic Minister at Good Shepherd.

Mary Rose's love for life was expressed through her many hobbies. She was an avid crafter, especially known for her crocheting, a puzzle lover and a garage sale enthusiast — her husband, Antonio, often obliged her love for spontaneous treasure hunts. Her favorite color, red, was more than a preference; it was part of her vibrant identity. She enjoyed music from Paul Anka and Tejano music especially Mazz, and Selena. Mary Rose cherished her relationships with her siblings and took great joy in their frequent conversations and closeness and building a life filled with love and family.

Mary Rose's love for decorating was legendary, especially during Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, Fourth of July, and Halloween, when every room in the house would be transformed. For many years, she and Antonio hosted unforgettable Fourth of July parties filled with food, laughter, family, friends, friends of friends and a great view of the fireworks.

Married to Antonio Duran Silva on September 4, 1965, at Good Shepherd Church, they shared 59 beautiful years together, traveling across the country and celebrating life's milestones together. Mary Rose and Antonio loved and adored their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They are very proud of their accomplishments and attended many of their ceremonies, concerts, plays, sporting events and religious sacraments. They shared a tradition of collecting pennies after their wedding, symbolizing their enduring love and unity.

She is survived by her loving husband, Antonio Silva; their children: Anthony (Denisa) Silva, Thomas Silva, and Mark Silva; grandchildren: Paul (Brittany), Tommy (Morgan), Jakub, Marcus, Filip, Daniel, and Chanelta; and great-grandchildren: Atlas and Boston.

She is also survived by her siblings: Robert (Vera) Plasencio, Carmelita Duran, Dolores Tramill, Richard Plasencio, and Loretta Alonzo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustin and Isabelle Plasencio, and her siblings: Anita Castenada, Michael Plasencio, Rita Dickson, and Veronica Villarreal.

Mary will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for family and community. Her legacy of faith, laughter, and tradition lives on in all who knew her. The family would like to especially thank the wonderful staff at St. Vincent's Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their excellence of care and kindness to Mary Rose.
