Mary Szymanski, age 97, formerly of Bakewell Street, Toledo, Ohio died Thursday, September 4, 2003 in Lutheran Home at Toledo. Mary was born on June 21, 1906 in Toledo. She was the daughter of Steve and Mary Meszaros and is the last survivor of their five children. On September 3, 1927, she married Joseph Szymanski in the Hungarian Reform Church. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1976. Mary was a homemaker and a member of Calvin United Church of Christ. One of her greatest enjoyments was cooking for her large family and preparing Hungarian cakes, cookies, breads - all the traditional foods - throughout the year and especially during the holidays. She loved to sew, crochet and was an avid reader until her eyesight began to fail. Mary continued to keep up with the best sellers through audio books. Survivors include sons, Lawrence of Las Vegas; Daniel (Mary Ann) and their children, Daniel and Lawrence; Rick (Mary Ann) and their children, Erik and Alan; daughters, Carolyn Hastings, her children, Edgar (Becky) Smith, Madeleine (Mark) Grimes, Albert Hastings, Carol Tuttle, Lorraine (Dennis) Durrand and Sherrie (George) Davenport; Gloria (Albert) Tscherne and son, A.J. (Dawn); Marlene (Kenneth) Smith and their children, Kenny, Jeffery, Lauren (Jeffrey) Ramasocky and Lynette; Christine (Richard) Lance; 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death is her son, Ronald; great-grandson, Bryan Hastings; sisters, Julie, Susie, Elizabeth and her brother, John. There will be a time of visitation Sunday, September 7, 2003 from 2-9 p.m. at the Kinsey Funeral Home, 2001 Consaul St. where funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Tributes in Mary's memory may be given to Calvin United Church of Christ. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the 3rd floor nurses and staff for the loving care given to their Mom during her stay at Lutheran Home at Toledo.
