Obituary

Mary E. Willey, 84, of Oregon, Ohio passed away April 26, 2004 in St. Charles Mercy Hospital. She was born in Broome County, NY on October 22, 1919 to Ernest and Hazel (Hull) Phelps. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence "Pete" Willey. Mrs. Willey served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corp during World War II stationed in Iceland, England and Paris where she arrived the day after the liberation. Mary was employed at St. Charles Hospital as a registered nurse for 25 years, retiring in 1979. She and her late husband also ran the Green Acre Nursery on Woodville Road for 20 years. Mary enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting and taking care of her family. She was a member of Walbridge United Brethren Church. Surviving are her children, James (Debbie) Willey, Roger (Martha) Willey, Barbara (Rick) Stultz and Laura (Ronald) Kozak; brother, W. David Phelps; grandchildren, Lori (Steve) Datkun, James (Amy) Willey, David, Jeffrey and Melissa Stultz, Roger, Jacob and John Willey and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence "Pete" and her parents. Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Woodville Road Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd. Millbury, OH on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
