Matilda Short, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. Tillie was born on November 4, 1923 to Sam and Lorena (Haddad) Matar in Saginaw, Michigan. She was the eldest of 5 children. Matilda lived in Port Huron, Michigan as well as St. Clair Michigan. She married the love of her life, Wilfred (Jack) Short on December 26, 1950, who preceded her in death in 2002. Jack and Tillie settled with their family in Oregon, Ohio. Tillie loved living along the water watching the lake freighters and her husband go off to sail. Matilda was a life member at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed working puzzles, embroidery needle work, watching the Chicago Cubs with her late husband and listening to her son, Jack, play the piano. Tillie and her husband enjoyed a succession of 4 dogs all by the name of "Roxie." She was also former Miss Blue Water of Port Huron, Michigan in 1949. Tillie was a very gracious woman to her family and everyone who cared for her.
Tillie is survived by her children, George (Carleen) Short, Gail (Bruce) Burgin, Jack Short; siblings, Russell (Ginger) Matar, Sam (Angela) Matar, Norma Jean (Paul) Double; grandchildren, Daniel Short, Andrew (Courtney) Burgin, Lauren Burgin; great-grandchildren, Paige and Arya Burgin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother and sister-in-law, John (Joann) Matar.
The family would like to express the thanks to the staff of Wolf Creek and Senior Independence Hospice for the love and care they showed Tillie and her family.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 798 S. Coy Rd. Oregon, Ohio 43616 on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. The family will meet guests beginning at 10:00 at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society.
