It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Matthew "Matt" Gabel on July 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with early-onset Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease.

Matt was born on September 3, 1968, and raised in Oregon, Ohio. He graduated with high honors from Clay High School in 1986, where he was a three-sport varsity athlete in football, hockey, and baseball. He went on to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, earning degrees in finance and statistics and graduating cum laude. While at Miami, he joined the Alpha Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, where he formed many meaningful friendships that lasted throughout his life. As his fraternity brothers shared:

"At the Alpha Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at Miami University, Matt was a beloved member, scholar, and contributor to the house. Matt was always the brother to lend a hand, whether it was chores around the house or helping other brothers, and was always the guy everyone wanted to hang out with. His quick wit and authenticity made him a Beta favorite to all."

After college, Matt attended Columbia University in New York, where he earned his MBA. Shortly thereafter, Matt began his career in finance as a global technology equity analyst at Furman Selz Capital Management, where he generated investment ideas across several technology sectors, beginning his lifelong passion for global technology investing. He went on to build a distinguished career on Wall Street at several prominent hedge funds, including Calypso Capital Management, Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisers, and Koyote Capital Group, among others. As a portfolio manager, Matt specialized in global long/short technology equities, combining rigorous research, strong investment judgment, and a deep understanding of the companies and markets he covered. He was widely respected for his discipline and unwavering dedication to his work.

Matt met the love of his life, Linda Lee, in New York. After they married, they moved to Fairfield, Connecticut, where they raised their three daughters, Gabriella, Alexandra, and Valentina, along with their beloved dog, Kona. Above all else, Matt was devoted to his family. He treasured the time they spent together and especially loved taking his daughters fishing and camping. He was their greatest supporter, proudly cheering them on at countless games, tournaments, and races. Of all his accomplishments, nothing made him prouder than his three daughters. Amidst a rigorous career and raising a family, Matt earned his black belt in Taekwondo, which required five years of dedication. Matt was also a loyal New York Yankees and Miami Dolphins fan, and loved sharing games and traditions with family and friends.

Above everything, Matt was deeply caring, generous, and compassionate. He approached others with genuine kindness and believed strongly in the importance of helping those in need. He volunteered with several organizations in Connecticut and encouraged his daughters and everyone around him to lead with empathy, compassion, and kindness each day. Extraordinarily hardworking, passionate, and driven, Matt gave his full effort to everything he pursued. He deeply valued the relationships he formed throughout his life and was endlessly loyal, generous, and supportive to those he loved. His warmth, strength, and humor will be remembered by all who knew him.

Matt is survived by his wife, Linda Lee; his daughters, Gabriella, Alexandra, and Valentina; his mother, Georgette Gabel; his sister, Cheryl Vislay, and her husband, Jason Vislay, and their family, Marisa and Max Clowdus and Jenna Vislay; his brother, Greg Gabel, and Lisa Wood, and their family, Samantha Gabel and Tommy Gabel; as well as many other cherished relatives and friends.

Matt was welcomed into Heaven by his father, Richard "Dick" Gabel, and his grandparents, Madge and George Evans and Rita and Paul Gabel.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Detroit Avenue for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided. Their dedication to keeping Matt comfortable during his final days brought immeasurable peace to Matt and his family.
