Maxine Annabelle (Calkins) Klaus, 94, passed away on December 3, 2004. She was born on September 27, 1910, to Jerome R. and Anna Belle (Carr) Calkins. Maxine married Frederick W. Klaus on May 29, 1930. Together they reared four children and countless foster children brought to her by the Child and Family Agency in Toledo. She worked at the DeVibiss plant and then in 1954 started the Day Nursery at St. Charles Hospital. Maxine worked there until retirement. She also headed the children's nursery at Trinity Episcopal Church for many years.
Maxine will be missed by her children, Patricia (Robert) Haynes, Fred (Phyllis) Klaus, Sharon Lee Williams of Somersworth, NH and Randolph W.Klaus. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lyle and Loyal Calkins; sisters, Lois Caldwell and Reva Keller. She is survived by her half brother, Gerald (Betty) Calkins.
A private family service will be held at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home. Interment will be in Troy Township Cemetery in Luckey, Ohio. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Maxine's name are asked to consider the Day Nursery at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio.
The family wishes to acknowledge the medical and support staff of Concord Care for their loving care of Maxine. The family also wishes to thank Chaplain Mark Bigley for Maxine's spiritual care.
