Obituary

Melvin A Kigar Jr., age 85, of Curtice Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March

Mel and Lona wed on February 6, 1965 and were happily married for 59 years.

father, and showing kindness to others. He served in churches as a Deacon, Sunday School

Teacher, Youth Leader, and Awana Club Director. Mel was an active member of Lemoyne

Baptist Church and, in retirement, volunteered for months helping with the addition to the

Church building.

Mel was a phenomenal fisherman! He fished on Lake Erie and local rivers most of his life, and

enjoyed salt-water fishing in retirement. He often limited out fishing for walleye and the family's

perch catches were listed in the Toledo Blade several times. Their one-day record is 64 pounds.

He took great satisfaction in his vegetable garden. He was an accomplished bowler in his

younger years and played on work and church softball teams. In retirement, Mel took up

birdwatching, enjoying spring migration in Ohio and winter birding in Florida. He enjoyed

various kinds of foods, but was especially a connoisseur of fruit pies.
