IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melvin W.
Overholser
June 30, 1948 – May 21, 2025
Melvin "Mel" W. Overholser passed away on May 21, 2025, in Oregon, Ohio at the age of 76. He was born on June 30, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio to Clifford Overholser and Geneveve Porath. He lived a life marked by service, adventure and simple joys.
Mel was a proud graduate of Clay High School's class of 1966. After graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His next career move was with Conrail where he worked as a Locomotive Engineer for 20 years.
His passion for travelling took him and his wife of 53 years to Australia, New Zealand and numerous countries across Europe. Whether exploring distant lands or enjoying time closer to home, Mel embraced life with enthusiasm.
He was known among family and friends for his love of playing cards. At home, he took great pride in maintaining his property, often seen cutting grass or plowing snow with his John Deere tractor. Riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and walking his dog, Daisy were other sources of joy. Riding his motorcycle gave him a sense of connection to the open road and the world around him.
Mel's life was one of balance between global adventures and simple pleasures at home. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Geneveve Overholser ; father Clifford Overholser; sister, Pamela Overholser and brother, Duane Overholser. He is survived by his wife Jane Overholser and sons Eric Overholser and Kurt Overholser.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be gifted to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Association.
