Mervin O. Cornell, 90, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 surrounded by his family. Mervin was born in Lupton, Michigan April 12, 1930 to Harvey and Grace (Lovell) Cornell. He serviced in the United States Army during the Korean War. On March 21, 1955, he married Wilma DePew. Mervin worked as a locksmith, as a self-employed hauler, and with Cleveland Metal Abrasive. He enjoyed working on weekend garage projects with his son and watching NASCAR. He was a member of the Northwood VFW #4906 and a former member of the Northwood Volunteer Fire Department. Mervin is survived by his children, Dorothy (Ray) Schwierking, Brenda (Jerry) Goeckerman, and James (Lori) Cornell; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; daughter, Pam Degasto; grandson, Chad Goeckerman; and siblings, Pat and Leon. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hope Community Church.
