Michael C. Jitter Langel, 76, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August, 29, 2007 at Toledo Hospital. He was born in Toledo on November 19, 1930 to Michael S. and Irma (Barteck) Langel. Michael was a template maker at Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company, retiring in 1985 after 31 years of service. Michael was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church where he attended grade school. He graduated from Central Catholic High School where he played football all four years. Michael served military service in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the V. F. W. Post 4906 of Greater Birmingham and an American Legion member of the Arthur Daly Post 0334. He also was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Fatima Council. Michael was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Rossford, Ohio. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed clearing trails through his daughter's river property, photography, camping, fishing and boating with his family. He also enjoyed duck hunting out of his own built layout boat and using his own hand crafted cork decoys for which he was featured in the January/February 1998 Edition of the renowned Decoy Magazine. Michael was very proud of this recognition.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by brothers, Francis Bud and Richard Dick Langel; sisters, Margaret Peggy Whal, Florence Martens Hapgood and Ruth Zalubil. Michael is survived by his loving wife and childhood sweetheart of 54 years, Doris Ann (Virag); daughters, Roxanne (Robert) Grebe, Chalane (Dr. Charles) Sheldon and Monika DeGregorio; grandchildren, Ronald DeGregorio, Breyden Sheldon and Nikhol DeGregorio, all of whom he loved and cherished, including his dog, Duke. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, helping whenever and however possible.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Friday, August 31, 2007 from 2-9 pm where V.F.W. Post 4906 will conduct services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. and proceed to St. Stephen Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
