Milan G. Penovich, 88, of east Toledo, Ohio passed away January 28, 2007 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born in Toledo, OH on August 2, 1918 to George and Anna (Serkez) Penovich. Milan was a US Army veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Penovich was employed for 36 years at the Norfolk and Western Railroad, formerly the Nickel Plate Railroad, where he worked as a brakeman and yard foreman before his retirement in 1982. Milan was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroe, MI, the Maumee Lodge #374 CSA, United Transportation Union, VFW Post #2510, Eagles and the Czech Polka Club.
Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Kathleen (Thomas) Doktor and Patricia (Bill) Vidrine; son, Dennis (Jamie Browski); loving and devoted granddaughters, Michelle (Dave) Wawrzynski and Lori (Greg) Surtman; great grandchildren, Jack and Andrew Surtman. Milan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter (Glendora) Penovich.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Willow Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Milan's memory are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to thank all of Milan's caregivers at Hospice.
