Neill G. Leighton, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004, at Haven Homes Assisted Living, Stow, Ohio, after an extended illness with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he lived most of his life in Oregon, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen (Gould) Leighton; his wife, Nina (Groll) Leighton; brother, Billy Leighton. He also was a veteran of the US Coast Guard serving during WW II. Neill worked for the Department of Defense until retirement and also worked for Owens Tech College for 15 years there after. He was member of First St. John Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Masonic Order for 54 years. Neill enjoyed boating, swimming and was deeply devoted to his family.
Surviving are his daughters, Terri Leighton and Pamela (Barney) Rowe; sister, Joy Leatrice Lofgren; grandchildren, Alicia (Matthew) Gyulai, Christopher (Jennifer) Rowe and Joshua (Sarah) Shinaver; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Noah Gyulai and Brian and Daniel Rowe.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon, OH on Friday, from 4-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9-1 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Lake Township Cemetery. Contributions in Neill's memory may be given to Alzheimer's Association.
