Obituary

Norman C. Schuffenecker, age 94, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Norman was born on October 23, 1923 to Carl and Mary (Chandler) Schuffenecker and grew up on a farm in rural Oregon, Ohio. Norman was known to his friends as "Beanie" a nickname he earned as a youth based on his quick ability to harvest lima beans. He was a graduate of Clay High School and a veteran of the US Army, serving in the South Pacific. He was quiet, but proud of his service in World War II. In recent years, he was honored to travel with his son on Honor Flight and take a flight on a B-17 bomber. On June 11, 1949, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Stroh. He was employed by Standard Oil as a pipefitter retiring after 42 of years of service. Norman was an Oregon Volunteer Fireman and served on the Standard Oil Credit Union Board of Directors. In retirement he enjoyed assisting his son and grandson Eric in their farming operations and attending basketball games of the Put In Bay High School basketball team coached by his grandson Craig. Norman and Phyllis spent many hours watching the reconstruction of Chippewa Golf Club with his brother-in-law, Dean Stroh. Norman was a lifelong member of First St John Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder. Norman will be remembered for his warm and gentle spirit and was truly one of the nicest men you could meet. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Phyllis; son Tom (LuAnn) Schuffenecker; grandchildren Eric (Brandy) Schuffenecker, Andrea (Paul) Warner, and Craig (Ashley Rill) Schuffenecker; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Ryder, Bristol, Zane, and Noah; brother-in-law, Dean (Lil-Mar) Stroh; along with many loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Howard Schuffenecker and Florence Straits The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11 am in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Road, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment: St. John Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to First St. John Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
