Nyla Gerrard passed away in peace Monday, April 8, after a long illness. She was born in Toledo on June 25, 1924 to Charles and Magdalena (Piel) Williams. Left behind are her sons, David, Mark (Ruth Ann), Paul (Barbara), and Matthew (Sheron), brother Howard, sisters Violet and Charlene, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Nyla in death 5 weeks ago was her husband of 69 years, Frank, her beloved son John, parents, brother Daniel, and sisters Carole and Gloria. Nyla attended the old Eastside Central School and graduated from Waite High School in 1942. In 1944 at the age of 19, she boarded a bus to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to wed Frank who was serving in the US Marine Corps. Nyla worked at Woolworth'™s during WWII, worked in the family business and as a homemaker for many years. Nyla traveled the world with Frank and sometimes with son John. She belonged to many charitable organizations including Meals on Wheels, the Humane Society, World Wildlife Federation, and Friends of Pearson Park. She was a member of the Toledo Museum of Art, the President'™s Circle of the Toledo Zoo, and member of First St. John Lutheran Church. Nyla has always been known for her kindness, generosity and cooking Sunday dinners for her family. Viewing will be at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy, Oregon, OH 43616 (419) 698 4301 on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Rd., Toledo beginning at 4:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Willow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial in Nyla'™s name to First St. John Lutheran Church.
