Obituary

Patricia Elizabeth (Gorsuch) Borton died in the Lutheran Home at Toledo on  May 22, 2006, at the age of 80.  Her son and daughter-in-law were at her side. Patty was the daughter of Doctor and Mrs. (Esther) George A. Gorsuch. Precocious and talented in her youth, Patty played the piano, drew beautifully and had poems published in Wee Wisdom before she was 10 years old. Patty was a 1943 graduate of Waite High School, a 1947 graduate of the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, attended the University of Cincinnati and was later graduated with honors from the University of Toledo where she received her B.S.N.  in 1951. An avid reader, she was a lover of art, history and classical music (especially opera).  In addition, she had a deep love of animals, belonging to many animal organizations, and keeping many beloved pets during her life. She always looked forward to being reunited with all of them some day at the Rainbow Bridge just this side of Heaven. Patty was fluent in Spanish and was an active member of the International Institute of Toledo for many years participating with her son George Richard in all of their festivals and activities with great zest and enjoyment.  She traveled to England, Spain and Italy in the 1960's.  She was also an active member of the Memorial United Church of Christ and particularly loved the inspirational Wednesday bible study classes there. Her wry sense of humor made her popular with most. During Patty's long nursing career, she worked as a registered nurse or supervisor in most of the hospitals in Toledo including Mercy, Riverside, Toledo Hospital, St Charles and St. Vincent's.   In Cincinnati, she was on the staff of the Bethesda and Cincinnati General Hospitals. In the years preceding retirement, she was a B.S.N. at the now Lutheran Home at Toledo where she loved caring for the elderly residents.   She is survived by her son George Richard  Borton (Terri), brother Rear Admiral George E. Gorsuch, MC USN (ret.) (Jute) and grandsons, Richard Andrew Borton and Nicholas Andrew Borton. She is survived also by beloved nieces and nephews all over the country, Emily, Debbie, Gretchen, Geoffrey, Gregory, and cousins including first cousin, Inez (Gorsuch) Koop of Lovell, Maine, beloved friend, Tony Ramirez of Oregon, OH, and long time dear friend, Jean Hogerson of Florida. Preceding Patty in death were her parents, (divorced) husbands, Richard R. Borton and William Bartha, life time family friend, Virgil P. Metz, and beloved niece Abby Kate Gorsuch. She will be greatly missed by all her loving family and dear friends.   Funeral services for Patty will be held at 2pm on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at  Memorial United Church of Christ, Starr Ave. at Plymouth St. with visitation 1 hour prior. Private interment will take place at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer, OH.  Contributions in Patty's name may be sent to Memorial United Church of Christ. Visitation: Visitation Times Thursday 1-2 pm Memorial United Church of Christ
