Obituary

Paul J. Christiansen, 96, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, January 5th at Orchard Villa Nursing Home after a year-long illness. Paul was born in Walbridge on December 9, 1913 to Hans Peter and Christina Christiansen, the youngest of ten. He spent most of his childhood in Michigan by Plainwell and Gun Lake where many cousins remain. He went to a one room school house and they farmed with a team of horses. Paul graduated from Waite High School and lived the rest of his life in the Toledo, Genoa and Walbridge area. Paul was a barber all of his life. He started at the Willard Hotel taking time to serve in the Army during WWII. Paul served in the medic unit in China, Burma and India. After the war he returned to the Willard and later the Hagerty Bowling Alley and the Hillcrest Hotel. Paul was a member of Genoa American Legion #324, Masonic Lodge Toledo, Toledo Ft. Industry and Eastern Star Palestine Chapter #51. He was an active member of AA for the last 36 years of his life. Paul is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Dee Christiansen; nephew, Erve (Martha) Baker of Oregon; niece, Margaret (Donald) Baker of Perrysburg, Virginia Hine of Florida; sister-in-law, Dorothy Estenfelder; cousins, Gloria Sterling and Edward Paul Delph. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of sixty-six years, Julia who passed away in April of 2005; brothers, Hans, Martin, William; sisters, Elizabeth Baker and Nora Terando. The Family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road at Starr Ave. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 beginning at 12:00 pm until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank all the staff at Orchard Villa, nurse Judy and aid Amie who took such good care of Paul. Special thanks also to Odyssey Hospice, Jennifer, Noelle and Bobbie. Visitation: Saturday, 12 Noon - 1:00 p.m. Services: 1:00 p.m. Interment: Inurnment in Toledo Memorial Park
