Obituary

Paul A. Mausser, 93, of Toledo, Ohio passed away February 7, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 27, 1915, to Andrew and Agnes (Cutshall) Mausser and was a 1933 graduate of Macomber High School. Paul served as a tool and die apprentice with the Mather Spring Company starting in 1935. He worked for Mather Spring from 1935 to 1972 as a journeyman tool and die maker, tool and die shop supervisor, tool engineer and maintenance superintendent. Mather Spring closed in 1972 and Paul continued his career with the Toledo Spring company setting up a spring shop in Toledo and working an additional 7 years as maintenance superintendent until his retirement in 1980. During WWII, Paul was deferred from military service due to the critical nature of the war material that Mather Spring was manufacturing and his skills were required to keep the operation running. During this time frame, Paul was also a Civil Defense Warden. Paul was a great advocate of the outdoors, he loved to hunt, fish and trap during his younger years and later on he specialized in fishing, something he would do with many of his children and grandchildren. Paul had a boat docked in Lake Erie until he was age 89. Paul also loved bowling and was very competitive. He bowled with the Faith United Methodist Church in the eastern community bowling league and also bowled in a league for years at Eastern Lanes with his nephew, Ed Frost. Paul was a great gardener and took much pride in his crops. He would rent land for his garden and work laboriously through harvest. Paul took an active part in the canning of his vegetables and generously shared his crops with many. During the past few years, Paul moved his garden to the back part of the homestead and continued canning his crop and sharing through this past summer. Paul had nine lives according to his doctors; he was on dialysis for the past 3 years getting treatment 3 days a week. He was strong, good natured and extremely pleasant during all of his treatments and the family was told by the dialysis staff how much they loved him. His daughter, Janice has lived with him for the past 10 years and has given her Dad unselfish love and care. The family would like to thank to extend special thanks to the staff of Laskey Dialysis, especially Katie. Paul and his wife of 60 years, Evelyn had a wonderful loving marriage. They both worked very hard to provide for their 7 children. Mom and Dad enjoyed Dad's retirement years by fishing, gardening and canning as Dad still acted as a supervisor even after retirement. Surviving are his daughters, Janice Rossler of Toledo, Diane (Dale) Hart of Perrysburg Twp. and Susan (Michael) Childers of Toledo; sons, Jerry (Judith) of Toledo, Robert (Earline) of Mississippi, Harold of Perrysburg, and Randy of Toledo; brother, Andrew of Toledo and sister, Rosella Porter; grandchildren, Renee (Pat) Thacker of Iowa, Kimberly (Charles) Young of Chicago, Cynthia (Bryan) Hartong of Canton, OH, Jodi (Brian) Outland of Toledo, Brett (Mindi) Rossler of Oregon, OH, Mark Zimmerman of Mississippi, Dawn (Martin) Perniciaro of Mississippi, Kristina (Brad)Norton of Mississippi, Dale (Sherri) Hart of Akron, OH, David (Amy) Hart of Columbus, OH, Darrin Hart of Perrysburg, OH, Nicole (Brian) Pointer of Toledo, Laura (David) Needs of Perrysburg, OH Daniel, Noah and Rachel Mausser of Oregon, OH, Wendy (John) Wesley, Timothy (Andrea) Childers, Joshua and Jeremy Mausser and Steven Fork; 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
