Paul Walter Nyers passed away on April 2, 2014. He was born to the union of Katherine (Virag) Nyers and William Nyers on March 2, 1941. Paul was an ironworker retiring from Local 55 in 1992 due to disability. In his younger days, he was quite an athlete playing softball on 3 City League Championship Teams. He was a 4 time winner in hurdles and 1st place 100 yard dash at Toledo Metro Track. In 1958 he played on the championship team for CYO Football. Paul competed in AAU swim and diving meets; one step under Olympic qualifiers. He was a Silver Glove Tristate boxing champion with 28 wins and one loss. He also played on city and state basketball teams. Paul is survived by his wife, Tillie (Kovacs) Nyers; daughter, Stephanie Nyers; son, Paul Nyers; brother, John (Eleanor) Nyers and various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany of the Lord Parish '" St. Stephen'™s Church, 2018 Consaul St., Toledo where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Bayside Boardwalk.
