Pete Steve Morris, 88, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born on January 4, 1929 to Steve and Katherine (Sfakianos) Morris in Toledo. Pete was happily married to the love of his life, Alfreda "Fritzie" (Kaloger) for 69 years with whom he raised four beautiful daughters. He cherished family and the precious time spent with his family above all else.
Pete was a man who truly valued hard work and approached each challenge with fearless determination. After working for LOF for 13 years, he served as an Ironworker and remained an active and supportive member of Local 55 until his death. An avid entrepreneur, he owned and operated many area businesses dating back to the 1950's including Star Vending, Morris' Restaurant, and Pete's Hot Dog to name just a few. His charm, optimism and keen business instincts drew people to him and furthered his successes.
He never sought the limelight, but was always ready and willing to step forward when needed, working tirelessly for the benefit of his family, friends and community. A loyal and generous friend to many, Pete had a special ability to help others in their pursuit of business and professional goals. He possessed unrivaled energy for civic and philanthropic endeavors - politics, labor, church, and charity. "Uncle Pete", as he was known to many, could often be found in the kitchen cooking large amounts of food for fundraisers for his favorite candidates or to provide meals for those in need (such as for Toledo's first responders during the blizzard of 1978 or for his church's Thanksgiving charity dinner). His hot dog chili and spaghetti sauces were legendary, as was his wise-cracking sense of humor.
Pete embraced his Greek heritage and was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the AHEPA organization. Pete served proudly as the safety guard for the Sunday School children for many years. In 2014, he was recognized by the Ladies Philoptochos Society for his many hours of service and his devotion to the church community.
Left to honor Pete's love and legacy are his beloved wife, Alfreda; his daughters, Catherine Manol, Pam (Jim) Martin, Susan (Ken) Anderson, and Cindie (Steve) Balint; his grandchildren, Nick Manol, Natalie (Mike) Jackson, Jamie (Jeremy) Marinis, Zack Manol, and Joey Balint; his five great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mary McAninch; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Katherine; his step-father, Tony Pilateris; his brothers, John, Gus, George, and Greg; and sister, Virginia Barlos.
The family will welcome visitors on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m with a Trisagion service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Eggleston, Meinert and Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 N. Superior St., Toledo. Interment will be held in Toledo Memorial Park. The Morris family would like to extend our gratitude to staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg and Pete's dedicated team of doctors for their attentive and loving care. Contributions in Pete's memory can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
