Philip Lee Curry, age 80, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family-a date made especially meaningful as it marked what would have been his late son's 55th birthday.
He was born on June 29, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to Denelda (Barney) Curry and William Curry. Phil graduated from Waite High School in 1963. He continued his education at the University of Toledo, earning an Associate's Degree in Public Service Technology in 1972 and later a Bachelor of Science Degree in Police Administration in 1975.
Phil proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he worked as a MP Officer and a U.S. Military compound prison guard. His service reflected his lifelong commitment to protecting and serving others.
In 1976, Phil married the love of his life, Bonnie (Patrilla) Curry, at Calvin United Church of Christ. Together they shared many wonderful years of marriage and built a loving family.
Phil dedicated 33 years to the Toledo Police Department, serving as a patrol officer and later as a juvenile detective. Known for his strong work ethic, he also took on side jobs cleaning carpets and provided security at numerous athletic events at Waite High School while off duty. After his retirement, he continued his service to the community by working an additional 19 years as a court security officer at the Federal Courthouse.
He was an avid bowler and loved vacationing with his family, especially their cherished summer trips to Myrtle Beach. Phil found great joy in attending his grandchildren's sporting events, participating in card club, sharing morning coffee with friends, and making Kolbasz with his church community. He took pride in working in his yard and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, no matter what he was doing. He also had a sweet tooth and especially enjoyed frozen Snickers and Hershey Kisses.
Phil is survived by his loving wife Bonnie Curry; his daughters, Amy (Shawn) Wilson, Wendy (Scott) Eck, and Katy (Justin) Moore; and his cherished grandchildren, Connor, Kendyl, Kinsley, Kiera, and Kami. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat Snider, Lona Kigar, and Cheryl Kigar; his sisters-in-law, Marcia (Sam) Walling and Theresa Patrilla; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Curry; and his son, Todd Curry
Phil will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his community and country, and his kind, generous spirit. His legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will live on in all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 South Coy Road. A special service conducted by VFW Post 4906 will take place at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell Street, Toledo, Ohio, March 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., visitation one hour prior. Military honors and burial will follow at Lake Township Cemetery.
