Obituary

Phillip Gregory Patrick LaPorte, 59 of Oregon, Ohio passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 10, 1957 to Bruno and Jacqueline (Light) LaPorte. Phil attended St. Charles Bartholomew Elementary School, where he played baseball and was a 1975 graduate of Bowsher High School. In 1974 Phil was a member of the Bowsher High School's Baseball Team when they won the City Championship. Into adulthood, his love of baseball continued while playing first base for Kahler Pharmacy. After six years of courtship Phil married the love of his life, Judith Ann Hogan on October 7, 1995. Together they were blessed when they became parents of their pride and joy; daughter Jacqueline Nadine-Niu LaPorte "Jadin". Phil had felt there was nothing greater than to be Jadin's proud father. Phil worked for Foodtown Bakery, Vitran, and most recently at TESCO where he was a bus deliveryman. An avid Red Sox and Norte Dame fan, Phil enjoyed all sports. He had a love for blues music; bicycling; barbequing; animals, and nature. He enjoyed travelling with his wife, Judy, for fun in the sun as well as most of the United States through his work. Surviving are his loving wife, Judy; daughter Jadin; brothers, Nick and Martin LaPorte; brother- in-law, Joe (Mary) Hogan; sister-in-law, Shari (Tony) Mastracci; nephews, Nicholas LaPorte and Nicholas Hogan; uncle, Maurice Hogan; Godchild, Sarah Schroeder; cousins, Margie & Bob Slack, Diane Damschroeder. Also surviving is his walking buddy, his dog Chloe and his buddy who doesn't like to walk, Tillie! Phil was preceded in death by his parents; Bruno & Jackie LaPorte; father and mother-in-law, Neal and Jan (Walland) Hogan; special family friend, Don Halm; and his canine friends, Rusty, Duchess, and Minnie. Visitation will be at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday from 4-8pm and Friday from 2-8pm with the Recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 pm on Friday.
