Phyllis A. Coontz, 87, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 in Genoa Retirement Village. Phyllis was born in Lucas County, Ohio on May 7, 1925 to Jacob and Elizabeth (Ersham) Moritz. Phyllis was a graduate of Clay High School. She was a dressmaker for 25 years and also worked in the admitting department at Mercy St. Charles Hospital for 10 years.
Phyllis will always be remembered for her kindness, grace, and generosity. She was a woman of determination and faith who went through her life with an irrepressible positive outlook. She never said a cross word about anyone, accomplished what she set out to do without a fuss, and never complained no matter what difficulties she faced in life. She filled her life with laughter, love, family and friends. She had a very active social life, which in her younger years included entertaining, boating, traveling and participation in her sorority group. Since Phyllis was not one to let a few extra years slow her down, she continued to enjoy many social activities in her golden years with her friends in her condo complex and at the Oregon Senior Center. Phyllis was an extremely talented seamstress who spent her free time creatively by sewing, knitting and taking art classes. Phyllis was a happy and energetic woman who seized life with both hands and took joy in all life had to offer. She always put others before herself and she will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her step-daughter, Judith D. (Coontz) Coleman; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Anderson; brother-in-laws, James Harrell and Jack (Dorothy) Coontz; sister-in-laws, Bernice Martin and Marilyn (Tom) Socie; many nieces and nephews who called her their second mom.
