Rachel Steele, 80, of Toledo, OH passed away on Monday, March 14, 2005 at St. Charles/Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Steele was born on August 5, 1924 in Toledo, OH to John and Irene (Wolcott) Grodi. She was a teacher for 32 years with the Toledo Public Schools, teaching 27 years at the former Oakdale Elementary School before retiring in June of 1980. Rachel was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church. She was a very talented professional singer using her gift in the church choir, the Toledo Choral Society and the Ohio Cardinals. She had a love for reading, art, sewing and cats. Rachel enjoyed her summers at the family cottage in Alpena, MI. Surviving are her children, James M. Steele and Rebecca Young; grandchildren, Jasmine (Sam) Castillo and Rachel E. Young; 2 great-grandchildren; aunt, Dorothy Wolcott; several cousins and her cat, Smokey. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford in 1985 and son-in-law, Garth Young. A celebration of Rachel's life will be held at 7 pm on March 24, 2005 at Faith United Methodist Church, 3415 Starr Ave., Oregon, OH. Arrangements by the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Homes.
