RAY R. RITZENTHALER.
Ray R. Ritzenthaler, 71, of Oregon, Ohio passed away surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, July 6, 2003.
He was born in Sandusky, Ohio on March 15, 1932 to Rolland H. and Helen (Grulich) Ritzenthaler. Ray
attended Waite High School and graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor's and Masters Degree
in Education. He was a member of UT's first Mid-American Conference Basketball Championship team and a
member of the Varsity "T" Club.
Ray was a 26 year basketball official and served on the Association's Executive Board. He refereed high school
football for 37 years and 10 years at the collegiate level, and was also the past president of the Northwest
District Football Officials Association. Ray was the Assigning Secretary of the Sandusky Bay Conference for 15
years and umpired softball for 47 years. Ray's career in education spanned 41 years, working in the Anthony
Wayne and Oregon school districts. Ray was an active lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Toledo,
Ohio, serving as past president and several congregational offices. He was involved in scouting with Troop
1666, and was leader of several contingents to the Philmont Scout Ranch. Ray was dedicated to his family. One
of his many joys was traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara (Myers); sons, David (Debra) Ritzenthaler, James (Linda)
Ritzenthaler; daughter, Beth (Kevin) Parlette; brother, Donald (Mary) Ritzenthaler; mother-in-law, Margaret
Myers; six grandchildren, Alicia, Matthew, Kevin, Ryan, Alex and Lauren. He was preceded in death by his
parents and infant grandson, Jason.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. at the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel,
440 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 am in St. Mark Lutheran Church
Woodville Road and Elmore Street where the family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service.. Interment
will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Ray's memory
are asked to consider St. Mark Lutheran Church.
