Raymond F. Schimming, 88, of Curtice, OH passed away on December 8, 2007, in his home. The son of William and Mary (Schimmel) Schimming, he was born on February 10, 1919, in the Schimming homestead, Williston, Ohio. He married Ruth Kasischke on June 6, 1941, in Gibsonburg, Ohio. Ray was a lifelong farmer, raising grain and dairy cattle. Ray's farm often was the gathering place for all the neighborhood kids to play sports. He was also employed by the Genoa School District as a bus driver from 1946 - 1983, and as a custodian at Genoa High School, retiring in 1983. He had fond memories of the many students he interacted with throughout the years. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Williston, where he enjoyed playing on the church's dart ball league. As a young adult, Ray played several years as a pitcher for the Williston Merchants Double A Baseball Team and many other local teams winning several championships. Ray will be dearly missed by his family and all of those who knew him.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth; son, Ronald E. (Judy); grandchildren, Patrick (Darlene), Wendy Orcutt and Matthew (Jenni); great-granddaughter, Payton Schimming; sisters, Geraldine Marsh and Phyllis (Martin) Parks and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Olga Hansen and brothers, Lester, Myron and Virgil.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd. on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, from 2 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions in Raymond's name may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church.
