Rev. Rennix L. Van Scoy, 90, of Toledo greeted his Savior Thursday, March 1, 2007 in his home. Pastor Van Scoy was born on September 16, 1916 to Harry and Ethel Van Scoy. Rev. Van Scoy was Senior Pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Woodville and Elmore Sts. from 1952 to 1969. He was director of development and associate administrator during the financing and building of St. Luke's Hospital from 1969-1975. Prior to his retirement, he served as pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, Sylvania and Brockton Sts. Rev. Van Scoy was a native of Marion, OH, and a graduate of Capital University and Trinity Seminary in Columbus, OH. During his seminary years Rev. Van Scoy worked 4 years on the sports desk of the Columbus Dispatch. He was active on the National Management and Associates Speaker's Bureau for over 20 years and was a long-time member of the personnel committee of the American Lutheran Church. His board service included Capital University Regent, St. Luke's and St. Charles Hospitals, Hospice Social Services, Special Needs Children, YMCA Men's Club and ALC Youth. Previous to Toledo, he served Ohio parishes in Trenton, Crestline and Bellevue.
Rev. Van Scoy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Esther and parents. Surviving are his sons, Rennix M. and Martin A. (Nadine) Van Scoy; daughter and son-in-law, Rhoda and James W. Hess, beloved granddaughter, Aleda M. Hess and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2007 in St. John's Lutheran Church, 708 S. Erie Street, Toledo. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Willard, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, OH, St. John's Lutheran Church, S. Erie St. or Hospice of NW Ohio. Rev. Van Scoy's family extends a special thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their wonderful care and concern.
