Richard L. Baumgartner, 94, of Oregon, Ohio passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Richard was born in Toledo on November 25, 1916 to Clifford and Helen (Mensing) Baumgartner. He married Geraldine Romstadt on August 7, 1937. Richard was very proud of having graduated from Waite High School, class of 1934, where he excelled in basketball. Mr. Baumgartner began working at the Pure Oil Refinery but soon joined his father Clifford and brothers Robert and Jack in C.C. Baumgartner & Sons Plumbing and Heating Contractors servicing East Toledo for over 75 years. He was very involved in the early formation of the City of Oregon, serving on the School Board during the construction of the new high school as well as Fassett and Eisenhour Jr. Highs. Richard served on Oregon City Council and was leader in their development of their own water plant. He was active in the Clay Athletic Boosters while his boys participated in sports and followed their athletic careers closely and with pride. He was long time member of Memorial United Church of Christ as well as Rubicon Masonic Lodge and Zenobia Shrine.
Survivors include sons, Richard Jr. (Barbara) of Perrysburg, Gerald (Patricia) and John (Elizabeth) of Rossford; grandchildren, Jill (Mike) Ganse, Jenny (Jason) Donnellon, Lara (Shawn) Eickel, Sara (Mike) McHugh, Beth (Brent) Crosby, Lynn (Brett) Brown, Rick (Debbie Textor), Jeff (Sherry) and Jamie Baumgartner, and special granddaughter, Gail (Tony) Gucciardo; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jade, Jase, Cole, Megan, Nicholas, Hunter, Jake, Piper, Evan, Ellie, Eric Collin, Maddie, Maren, John Carter, Hudson Brooke, and A.J.; sister, Jean Murphy; brothers, Don and Jack Baumgartner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine; sister, Ruth Stock and brothers, George and Robert.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, on Sunday, August 28, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Masonic Lodge Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday August 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
