Richard D. Breier, 86, of Northwood, Ohio, went peacefully with the Good Lord Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio at his Freedom Street home September 9, 1928 to Roy and Augusta (Lenz) Breier. He cherished memories and enjoyed revisiting his childhood home in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, the home built by his father on Nelson Street in Toledo, and his familys farm in Stryker, Ohio. He served in the US Army in Occupied Japan. Richard married Mary Belle Power October 28, 1950. They took a lot of pride in raising their six children on Pool Street and Curtice Road in Northwood. They were raised to be generous loving and considerate, hard working, and resourceful. Those were qualities they possessed and valued in others. Richard never shied away from hard work, having done more physical labor on accident than many people did on purpose. He was always available to help a friend with a project, and he could fix most anything. He worked 42 years on the B&O and CSX Railroads. Having done many jobs for the railroad, he retired as an engineer. To support his family, he worked many years delivering furniture for Tiedtke'™s. In his retirement he could usually be found in his garden or his pole barn covered in rust and grease working on one thing or another. He especially enjoyed working and fishing on his boat. Since 1988, he and Mary Belle spent their winters in Panama City Beach, Florida where they made many good friends. He often said with a smile that he had a lot of fun times in his life.
Richard was preceded in death by Mary Belle, his beloved wife of 58 years; parents; brother, Leroy; sister, Juanita and Harry Meyer; and son-in-law, Rick Fowler. He is survived by 7 great grandchildren, 9 grandchildren; children, David (Marcia) Breier, Sue Fowler, Patricia (John) Barber, Donna (Mike) Winslow, Donald Breier, and Jerry (Jennifer) Breier; brothers, James (Betty) and John (Sue), beloved Uncle William Lenz, and special friend, Jo Reese.
