Obituary

Richard H. Carr, 85, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Bay Park Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 18, 1926 to Harvey and Edna Fern (Emfield) Carr. Dick was a veteran of the US Navy during WW II, serving aboard the U.S.S. John Rodgers. On March 1, 1946, he married Claudia Faust and she preceded him in death December 7, 1981. On June 10, 1983, he married Bonnie Sturgill. Dick was employed with B & O and CSX Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1987. He was a former member of Adams Conservation Club where he enjoyed shooting sports. Dick enjoyed woodworking, bowling, hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of Oakdale - Unity United Methodist Churches. His true passion was spending time with his grandchildren. Dick is survived by his wife of 28 years Bonnie; children, Larry (Dixie), Richanna (Terry) Smith, Linda (Fred) Henry, Carolyn (Mike) Odneal, Cherrie (Dan) Businger, and Bruce (Viola); step-children, Edwin (Terri) Sturgill and James (Carla) Sturgill; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson; brother, Harold (June) Carr. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sons Richard and Robert; step-son, Robert Sturgill; brothers, Russell and Wes; and sister, Jane. Friends may call at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 2:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
