Richard "Dick" F. Bailey, 76, of Curtice, Ohio passed away October 6, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was born in Toledo, OH to Fredrick and Helen (Fox) Bailey. Dick was a graduate of Clay High School and a veteran of the First Division U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad as a conductor-brakeman with over 40 years of service. Dick was an avid boater, fisherman, and camper who loved to travel. He was a frequent contributor to the Blade and Metro Press editorial pages and a voracious reader. Dick also loved his dogs and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church and various organizations including, the Jerusalem Township Zoning Commission and the Ohio Lakefront Group.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Joan; son, Richard D. (Pamela); daughters, Carol (Kevin) Abbey, Debbie (Burt) Cullum and Cynthia (Timothy) Smith; grandchildren, Heather (Roger) Crites, Christopher (Michelle) Bailey, Erin, Ryan (Heather) and Shannon Abbey; great grandchild, Lillian Bailey; several step-grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Larry Grant and Dennis (Bonnie) Grant; sisters-in-law, Sandra (James) Koester, Linda (Thomas) Sigurdson and Christine Kissling, and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and parents-in-law, Clarence and Iva Grant.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in First St. Johns Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman St. on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Elliston Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Dicks memory can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the American Cancer Society or First St. Johns Lutheran Church.
