Obituary

Richard L. Harmon died August 18, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg after a short illness. He was born March 12, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio to Lawrence and Emma (Bruggeman) Harmon. He was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church and graduated from Clay High School in 1944. While in high school he was a member of the Air Corp Cadet Program and lettered in baseball. After high school he joined the Army Air Corp and served in Europe for the duration of WWII. After returning from service, he attended the University of Toledo and married the love of his life, Janette M. St. John on March 19, 1948. Upon graduation from the University of Toledo with a BA in 1950, he began his career at Libbey Owens Ford Company at the Executive Office in Toledo. He was transferred to the Rossford Plant #6. His career spanned 37 years and during this period he was promoted to several office management positions. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon spent many winters in Winter Haven, Florida. They both enjoyed traveling, golf, bowling, and were members of Chippewa Golf Club, where Mr. Harmon scored two holes-in-one. Mr. Harmon played many years in Libbey Owens Ford bowling and golf leagues where he was league champion on two occasions. Mr. Harmon is survived by his children, John (Sandra) Harmon, Jim (Becky) Harmon, and Janet (Mark) St. Clair; grandchildren, Hope (John) Briley, Jonathan (Julia) Harmon, Donald (Jennifer) Harmon, Michael Harmon, Nicole St. Clair, Sara (Joe) Peters, Emily St. Clair; great grandchildren, Morgan and Nicholas Briley, Kylee and Linkoln Peters, and Parker Mendoza. He is also survived by brothers, Jack and James Harmon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Harmon; daughter, Mary Beth Harmon; son, Richard Dean Harmon; parents, Lawrence and Emma Harmon. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 am in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Street, Toledo. Private interment will take place in St. Johns Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to First St. John Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
