In 2015, he was inducted with his 1972 football team into the Cardinal Stritch High School Hall of Fame.
A high school and college athlete himself, Rick played football, basketball, and ran track both at Cardinal Stritch High School and Washtenau Community College in Michigan.
He served as Aquatic Director both at Laurel Hills Tennis Club and Inverness Country Club. He also coached swimming.
Rick loved to golf, and achieved a "Hole-in-One" at Orchard Hills Country Club, Bryan Ohio, June 30, 2001, while playing with his late brother-in-law, Roger Wanner. He golfed for years with the Clay High School Faculty Golf League (the CFGL), and traveled with his golf friends in the summer to various challenging golf courses.
